Improvised music is an important part of Sue Schlotte’s style. Her concerts are characterized by unpredictability and a special vividness.
During her solo performances Sue Schlotte is exploring the sound variety of her instrument. Round bow - in addition to the modern bow - and voice broaden and intensify the multi layers of sound. In
reference to any given occasion and situation she includes the concept of space and movement.
She frequently works together with artits of dance, performance, literature or live-painting as well.

Sue Schlotte was born in 1967 in Frankfurt.
She studied philosophy, psychology, music education in Frankfurt am Main and the cello in Mainz. In 1996 she graduated with a diploma in music. Master classes with the cellists Hans Erik Deckert and Heidi Litschauer enriched her studies.
Sound studies, the development of contemporary playing techniques, further training under Lauren Newton, vocal improvisation and under Gunther Tiedemann, jazz cello helped her to find her own unique style. Sue Schlotte not only uses the traditional bow but also the curved bow (designed by Michael Bach).
In 2005 Sue Schlotte lived for several months in Berkley / United States of America. With the pianist and composer Matthew Goodheart she founded the duo
"Goodheart / Schlotte".
From 2007 until 2010 she worked as a stage musician in "Die Nibelungen" and "Das Goldene Vlies" plays, directed by Karin Beier at the Cologne Theatre.
In 2009 she successfully completed her training as a TaKeTiNa-Rhythm-Teacher under Reinhard Flatischler.
2011 she was a local artist at the “Alfter summer academy”.
She performs as a solo artist and in various formations, giving concerts around Europe and the United States. She works in crossover projects including movies and audio recordings and co-operates hand-in-hand with artists from different genres: dance, painting, performance and literature.
She is a member of the multiple joi❲ce❳ orchestra, since 2011 she strongly collaborates and gives concerts with Nils Kercher and Kira Kaipainen.
Furthermore, she teaches the cello and gives workshops for cello ensembles, TaKeTiNA and free improvisation e.g. at the “Alfter Summer Academy”.
